About parksidemedia.net

This site is an online showcase for moving image work produced by students at the Parkside Federation and its partner primary schools. It also provides links to articles and publications, Teachers' TV programmes and other organisations related to media projects at the Federation. There is information about training and consultancy, and a growing bank of downloadable resources and teaching guides. The site is constantly updated with new material.

All the video material is hosted at YouTube or TeacherTube, but can be viewed on this site. To view the videos, you will need a recent version of Flash installed on your computer.

At the moment, much of the work produced by students for internal exhibition makes some use of copyrighted material, which cannot be published here.

The Parkside Federation

The Parkside Federation operates two 11-16 mixed comprehensive schools in Cambridge, UK: Parkside and Coleridge. The two schools are run by a single governing body and a single leadership team, led by Executive Principal Andrew Hutchinson. Each subject is taught by a single Faculty across both schools, delivering a common curriculum.

The Federation is affiliated to the Cambridge University training partnership, and is a leading member of the influential ‘Futures Vision’ think-tank, developing innovative approaches to education.

Media Arts

In 1998, Parkside Community College became the first Media Arts College in the UK, and retained this status until 2007, when it changed specialism.

As a Media Arts College, Parkside developed innovative approaches to media across the whole curriculum, to work with moving image and to uses of new classroom technology, with an emphasis on an entitlement experience for all students, rather than just on special projects. There is an especially well developed media curriculum at Key Stage 3.

CRAM logo

The Parkside Federation has been a 'gateway' deliverer of the Creative & Media Diploma, for 14-16 year-old students from all over Cambridge. The 'Videos' section of this site contains examples of moving image work produced by students following the Level 2 course.

Leading Edge

The dissemination of innovative practice in media education is now the main focus of the college's Leading Edge activity.

The Federation is a key partner in the Cambridge Film Consortium.
